Abstract

In this article, we will first describe the language of the novel I Malvoglia published in Italy at the end of the 19th century by Giovanni Verga. Then we will see how the writer translated a large number of Sicilian into Italian. Finally, we will try to understand strategies used by French proverbs translators to translate these proverbs into the French language. We have consulted and compared the three existing French translations of Les Malavoglia: Édouard Rod (1900) [1881], Henriette Valot (1957) and Maurice Darmon (1988).
