Abstract

Abstract: Students’ translations with Romanian as a target language show a significant amount of variety in opting for a temporal equivalence. This observation led to an investigation of temporal connotations in French and Romanian from a pragmatics (The Directional Inference Model) and a translation perspective. In the larger context of the debate surrounding the concept of translation unit, we deem necessary to research the inferential process by which linguistic information interacts with context in order to generate meaning, thus formalizing a new type of unit/subunit.
