Abstract

The present article is an analysis of the fictional hypostases of literature translator, as this one appears imagined and projected in a series of recent literary texts. The study has as theoretical hypothesis the possibility that the great literature translator is an ideal entity implicit to the text, already existing in his possible world as a desire, projection, vision or strategy underlying the generative mechanism. The “model translator” is thus recognized as a concrete epistemology problem and subjected to conceptual reflections similar to those extracted from the field of reading theory and, in particular, from the theory of “model reader”, configured by Umberto Eco. The central idea of the study is that any author and any text builds its own great translator, according to a determined discursive universe, addressed to a spirit-pair. Based on concrete literary examples, the performed analysis demonstrates the existence of imaginary or desirable translator, projected in the fiction as a character endowed with the author’s expectations and exigencies.
