Abstract

Hét’oum, prince of the royal family of Armenia (Cilician), was first constable of the kingdom, then retired, for some time, to Cyprus, in a Latin monastery.
He dictated to Nicolas Falcon a work comparable, in certain aspects, to the Book of Wonders, by the Venetian Marco Polo: it is La Fleur des Histoires de la Terre d’Orient, written in Middle French

and which had a very wide and long-lasting impact in the Western world. The book was presented to Pope Clement V, then residing in Poitiers, in 1307, with a view to instigating a new crusade (last part), the preceding parts describe in a very interesting way the main peoples and countries of Asia and, in particular «the kingdom of Armenia», «the kingdom of Syria» (including Cilician Armenia), and «the kingdom of Georgia» (ch. X, mentioning the partition of the country) and referring to very old legends.
