Abstract

«Any family novel implicitly tells the story of a disaster», writes Jean-Pierre Martin in his important essay La honte. Réflexions sur la littérature .
From this observation, the Algerian literature of French expression gives us remarkable illustrations, since the 1950s. From Kateb Yacine to Kamel Daoud, the Algerian novel exposes a haunting quest for origins which inevitably ends in failure, as if the story of the foundation was struggling to recover from filial or tribal disorder caused by colonial intrusion.

It is on the exploration of the different narrative forms that this quest for origins takes that my paper will focus.
