Redarea tăcerii în traducerea poeziei japoneze în limbile română și engleză

Abstract

This article presents and compares the translation strategies used to translate poetic work from Japanese into Romanian and English. The main difficulty lies in the specificity of the Japanese language, starting with the word order in the sentence, of a writing method consisting of three distinct alphabets (Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji), and last but not least, the lexemes used have connotations that are rarely known by non-speakers of Japanese. The translation of short prose fragments can be characterized by a medium level of difficulty, whereas the translation of the poetic work has a considerably higher degree of difficulty. Using the analytical and comparative method, we identify the translation strategies used for a series of Japanese poems, haiku, and evaluate their effectiveness.

The corpus created consists of several poetic works, in the original language, Japanese. Thus, this article presents specific examples of the translation of these poetic works by several translators.

As a result of this study, we will take several examples of the use of Japanese language translation strategies in Romanian and English, cases that are to be compared and analysed in terms of lexemes and semantic constructions in Romanian and English, these languages having distinctive features in terms of grammar, phonetics, vocabulary etc. Following the analysis, we intend to list of recommendations and a brief description of their effectiveness. For the study we consult the publications of the following authors: Hidetoshi Tomiyama, Sugeng Hariyanto, S. F. Goncharenko, AA Dolin, Susan Bassnett.
