Norme juridique et pratiques judiciaires: un procès intenté à Renart: (fin XIIe siècle)
Keywords:
Medieval literature, Roman de Renart, TrialAbstract
The present study focuses on a medieval work that represents judicial practice: the Roman de Renart. The protagonist is a goupil named Renart, a seductive and deceptive character that, between 1170 and 1250, the various authors like to multiply the adventures and misadventures attributable to both his animality and his humanity. The text offers the reader the representation of a trial in due form, while at the same time provoking laughter and maintaining the pleasure of reading or hearing literary material. There are some sudden transitions from one world to another without interference, but we often forget that these are animals, as for example when we read La Fontaine’s fables, so accurate and vivid is the portrayal of society.
