Dynamique linguistique et culturelle dans la prose romanesque de Mpoudi Ngollé et Kuitché Fonkou. Une question d’imaginaire?

Abstract

Abstract: This article analyzes some fictional works by Cameroonian authors, Mpoudi Ngollé and Kuitché Fonkou. It reveals that the linguistic and socio-cultural choices determine the aesthetic and ideological orientation of their art. We observe in their novels a permanent flow between two universes, culturaly and linguisticaly different. On the one hand, the socio-cultural environment predominates and justifies the use of a certain anthroponymy, the aim of wich is to adapt Western names and to advocate for typicaly Camerounians surnames. These better reflect the fate of the caracters and, therefore, align with the story being told. On the other hand, with regard to the language of communication, the novelist’s choices are explained by historical and socio-political realities; so that the use made of it is neither neutral nor homogeneous. On a recuring basis, he uses neologisms to highlight his original cultural milieu. These phonomena prepare and confirm the expression of an epilinguistic discourse strongly marked by various stereotypes, both ameliorative and pejorative.
