Abstract

Among the recurring themes addressed by contemporary francophone writers is the role of memory and forgetting in the
formation and consolidation of identity. This article studies the valences between these two directions of human psychology based
on the works of the Belgian writer Jean Jauniaux. The questions that concern him are found deep within the consciousness of
each of us. How to recover memories that seem lost? What are the factors that cause involuntary memory? Who am I as an adult
compared to the child of the past? What are the wounds that have not yet healed? To all of this, the short stories we analyze provides the answers we seek.
