Traduire Tail of the Blue Bird en français: Quelle marge de manœuvre pour le traducteur?

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyse how the linguistic and cultural features of Nii Ayikwei Parkes’ novel Tail of the Blue Bird are translated into French. More specifically, the aim is to explore the source text and its translation to identify the difficulties generated by the transfer of linguistic and cultural references. After revealing the difficulties involved in the translation of this multilingual and multicultural text, we will study, through examples from the novel, the different choices made by the translator to solve these problems and which allow her to translate this West African text into French.
