Abstract

This study focuses on borrowing as one of the main processes of linguistic innovation: it focuses, more precisely, on
the importance of anglicisms in the French language. We will take illustrative examples of what we call luxury loans (for example bye
bye, okay, cash etc.) and we will study what they have over their French equivalents. By situating ourselves in a linguistic framework
focused on a semantic-pragmaticapproach, we will examine these borrowings with emphasis on their status as modality markers.
To carry out this analysis, we will use proven examples, including sentences published by Internet users on social networks or also
lines inherent to characters in contemporary literary tek=xts, which perfectly illustrate the evolution of language in current uses. By
examining the most significant cases in our corpus, we will finally succed in identifying several modalities linked to certain classic or
recent borrowings which cross the French language: it is precisely a question of marking quitte interesting
